Firearms Permit to Acquire
Buying a gun is not as simple as just driving up to Shooter’s Delight gun shop purchasing a firearm over the counter and heading home.
Of course, this is a good thing for the safety and security of all Australians.
A common misconception is that all you need to do to buy a gun is hold a valid weapons license. While you do need this, you also need to successfully obtain a permit to acquire.
Without both a license and a permit no registered dealer in Brisbane – including Shooter’s Delight – will let you acquire a firearm.
All things firearms and safety
We take great pride in being the ultimate destination for high quality firearms and services in Queensland. Aussie owned and operated, we know all there is to know about guns, ordinance, firearm safety and ownership. As qualified firearms instructors, we take gun safety very seriously.
About firearm licenses
The Category A&B firearms licence is the most common licence suitable for sports and target shooters.
Before you can acquire this license, however, you will need a permit endorsed for the kind of firearm you intend to acquire. Whether you’re looking to buy a rifle, shotgun or handgun, you need to have the right license and appropriate endorsement.
Once this is all done to specification and according to regulation, you’re ready to apply for a firearms permit to acquire.
About Permits to Acquire
We see many would-be customers come in to see us with a valid license but without a permit. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to sell these customers a firearm.
To avoid disappointment and delay in obtaining your gun, we strongly recommend getting your Permit to Acquire (PTA) as soon as possible. Fortunately, the process won’t hold up your purchase for too long.
A PTA can be applied for online or in person at your local police station. Applying online is convenient and simple, and can be done in the comfort of your own home. For help and guidance in completing the steps necessary, you can always give our friendly staff a call or come into our store.
STEP 1
We highly recommend jumping onto your local police department’s website to view their instructional videos and information about how to fill out a PTA application. They can be incredibly helpful and time saving.
STEP 2
Get your digital/scanned documentation ready so you can upload it and complete the process online straightway. You might need to scan the documentation and save in on your device or a memory stick. This process cannot be saved and resumed later, so make sure you have everything you need before you start.
STEP 3
Fill out the questionnaire to complete your application. There is a handy help button to further assist you if you get stuck at any point. Again, the Shooter’s Delight team can also help you in store when you intend to buy a firearm with us.
